— Read articles on TheRealProposal.com to get a feel of our magazine’s voice, our stance on topical issues and examples of pieces that may have already articulated your idea.
— Google is your friend. Relationships comprise our area of expertise. Therefore, googling your proposed idea can go a long way to highlight what will not be of interest to us. If you have a fresh perspective, however, that will edify thought, offer profound insights and elevate consciousness, then go ahead, make our day. Transformation is our end-game.
— The Real Proposal™ magazine is known for crafting profound, witty, persuasive arguments that provoke thought. We. push. boundaries. The best pitches are clear, concise and well researched, yet do not take conventional wisdom for granted.
— We recommend that you do not send complete drafts of your piece. Typically, it’s easier to envision and work with you on an as-yet-unwritten story that might fit The Real Proposal™ .
— Specify what section of the magazine you’re pitching—browse our categories carefully.
— Include a clever, one-to-two-sentence bio. If available, please provide links to any relevant published work that’s written in a voice similar to The Real Proposal™ magazine’s. Writings from a personal blog or other site is acceptable.
— We are looking for exclusives. Therefore, if you’re pitching your idea to multiple publications, please let us know so we can respond expeditiously.
— Avoid sending your pitch more than once. It is annoying and time consuming and does not endear you to our editors. We are in close and constant touch with each other and, frequently, the decision to pass is made collaboratively.
— Lastly, we regret we cannot always respond to pitches in a timely manner. Therefore, especially on time-sensitive pieces, please feel free to pitch it elsewhere if you haven’t heard back from us within 48 -72 hours.
Send your pitch via email only to: Submissions@therealpropsal.com
Good luck!
